State Bans Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity Instruction For Children
Iowa Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds signed a law Friday that bans schools from discussing children’s sexual orientation and gender identity.
The law states that “a school district shall not provide any program, curriculum, test, survey, questionnaire, promotion, or instruction relating to gender identity or sexual orientation to students in kindergarten through grade six.” It also ensures that that library programs in public school districts only show “age appropriate materials” to children.
Anyone who violates the new law will receive a written warning from their local district, according to the Christian Post. Any other violations will receive a scalable set of disciplinary action. The bill also insists that schools publish comprehensive lists of all books available to any student within the jurisdiction. It also prohibits “false or misleading information to the parent or guardian of a student regarding the student’s gender identity or intention to transition to a gender that is different than the sex listed on a student’s official birth certificate” and other documentation.
