Pentagon Implements, Then Quietly Reverses Gender-Neutral Language For Military Awards

The Pentagon implemented and then reversed the decision to use gender-neutral language for military award citations.

The gender-neutral language decision was revealed in the Manual of Military Decorations and Awards on August 7, as shared by The Daily Signal. The change was so small and received such little publicity from the military that no one in the mainstream press realized it happened until weeks later.

The changes meant those receiving the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, and the Joint Meritorious Unit Award would be called “themselves.”

For example:

“Superior Meritorious Service (e.g., PCS and Retirement awards): (Rank) First M. Last, Jr., United States (Military Service), distinguished themself by superior meritorious service in a position of significant responsibility as (position and duty assignment), from (month year) to (month year).”

“Aside from the fact that the use of the pronoun ‘themself’ is grammatically incorrect and just plain stupid sounding,” Heritage Foundation experts Cully Stimson and Dakota Wood told the Washington Stand. “it is insulting to every service man and service women [sic] in the armed forces.”

Ignoring Real Threats

“The Secretary of the Air Force stated that our military is ‘not as ready as we need to be’ to face the challenge posed by the Chinese Communist Party,” Republican Wisconsin Rep. Mike Gallagher said of the change. “Yet, amid this challenge and compounding military recruiting and budget crises, the Pentagon has once again chosen to waste time and resources on wokeness instead of warfighting.”

What Do You Want Your Leaders Focusing On?

While some think the use of gender pronouns is important, we’re more concerned about rising global tensions bringing us to the brink of a world war. We’re also concerned about the economy, parents rights, and protecting our Constitution.

If you’re worried about these things too, you can tell your local, state, and federally elected officials to focus on them.
