Long-time California Sen. Dianne Feinstein died Friday age 90.
“Sadly, Senator Feinstein passed away last night at her home in Washington, D.C. Her passing is a great loss for so many, from those who loved and cared for her to the people of California that she dedicated her life to serving,” her chief of staff James Sauls said in a statement to Fox News. “Senator Feinstein never backed away from a fight for what was just and right. At the same time, she was always willing to work with anyone, even those she disagreed with, if it meant bettering the lives of Californians or the betterment of our nation.”
According to the Congressional Record, Feinstein was present in the Senate on the Wednesday before her passing. She cast a vote at 11:45am. There were two other votes in the afternoon, both of which she missed.
Longest-Serving Female Senator Ever
Feinstein then returned to work on Thursday, as seen in footage shared on C-SPAN. She cast her finale vote shortly before lunchtime, after being escorted to the Senate floor. She voted in favor of a short-term spending bill aimed at avoiding a government shut down.
Remembering Her Legacy
“She’s a champion for the preservation of the Mojave Desert, Lake Tahoe and California’s forests. She helped create the nationwide AMBER Alert network, passed bills to criminalize border drug tunnels and has long focused on improving California’s water infrastructure and reducing the threat of wildfires,” her website noted.
It is devastating to think her career was so impactful to so many, but it doesn’t seem to make a difference today. Cartels are trafficking drugs and people, including children, across our southern border at record speeds. Countless people go missing every year, including children.
California’s water infrastructure is not capable of dealing with the ever-growing threat of mismanagement in our relationship with the natural world. The state is far from a shepherd for the environment.
