Pro-Lifers Remain Hopeful Despite Supreme Court’s Temporary Abortion Decision

The Supreme Court temporarily restored the Food and Drug Administration’s rules for the widespread distribution of chemical abortion drug mifepristone, Friday.

The decision came shortly after the April 7 decision by a judge in the Northern District of Texas struck down FDA approval for the drug, The Washington Stand reported. The judge argued that the approval process used by the FDA for mifepristone was politicized and bypassed various safety regulations.

The Fifth Circuit then prevented the distribution of the drug via mail or any use after seven weeks gestation of an unborn life, the outlet continued. This decision seems to have led to the FDA and Danco Laboratories application to the Supreme Court to stay (pause) the injunction, which was subsequently granted. Of the decision, Justice Alito said that there was no justification for the stay, as it “would not remove mifepristone  from the market. It would simply restore the circumstances that existed between 2000 and 2016.”

Failure To Study The Impact Of Drugs

“The FDA must answer for the damage it has caused to the health of countless women and girls and the rule of law by failing to study how dangerous the chemical abortion drug regimen is and unlawfully removing every meaningful safeguard, even allowing for mail-order abortions,” Alliance Defending Freedom attorney Erik Baptist said of the situation.

The group are attempting to remove the drug from the market entirely, and not just because  it’s  designed to kill unborn children. “Right now, over 50% of abortions are committed by chemical means. And what we’ve seen correspond with that is the escalation by 500% of emergency room visits by women after abortions, in particular because of the chemical abortion drug,” Baptist continued later in the statement.

“So, we have asked the court to hold the FDA accountable for failing to follow the law.”  (LEARN MORE: 32,000 Fewer Abortions Happened After Roe v. Wade Was Overturned, Report States)
