GOP lawmakers voted Tuesday to remove Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy from his position, replacing him with North Carolina Rep. Patrick McHenry.

The vote tally landed at 216 to 210, according to CBN. All Democrats, along with eight Republicans, led by Florida Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz, voted for the motion for McCarthy to vacate his position.

While some, like Democratic Minority leader Hakeem Jeffries, called for an end to the chaos within the House, Gaetz hit back. “I don’t think voting against @SpeakerMcCarthy is chaos. I think $33 Trillion in debt is chaos. I think not passing single-subject spending bills is chaos. Who Will Lead The House Now?

It is unclear who will lead the House as there is such a razor-thin margin within the majority. Some have suggested former President Donald Trump may take the seat. But it remains to be seen.

McCarthy told reporters he has no plans to try and reclaim his position. “I fought for what I believe in,” McCarthy said, according to Reuters. “I believe I can continue to fight, but maybe in a different manner.
