Most GOP 2024 Candidates Would Support Trump If He’s Convicted

During Wednesday night’s 2024 Presidential candidates debate on Fox, nearly all of the competitors said they would support former President Donald Trump if he is convicted in Fulton County, Georgia, or anywhere else.

Former U.S. Ambassador to the UN and South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis were the first to raise their hands in support of Trump. Ramaswamy led the pack by seconds, not even flinching at the idea of being loyal to the GOP’s leadership.

Former Republican New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie did raise his hand, but only to say that his potential voters — who overwhelmingly support Trump — should stop normalizing his behavior.

Ramaswamy’s Heated Statements

Ramaswamy’s defense of Trump was passionate. He called him “the best president of the 21st century,” adding that the U.S. “cannot set a precedent where the party in power uses police force to indict its political opponents.” He called these actions a “weaponization” of the justice system, to which Fox’s audience let out an audible cheer.

DeSantis also called for the “weaponization of government” to end, and promised to fire Attorney General Merrick Garland should he be elected.
