A group of far-left activists staged a mini-insurrection in Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s office Monday, demanding that he and others pass the President’s Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief (PREFAR).

PREFAR is a major global aid program that attempts to stop the transmission of HIV/AIDS to mainly women and children, according to The Washington Stand. PREFAR was initially passed under former President George W. Bush’s administration, and received significant bipartisan support at the time. More recently, some pro-life organizations have issued concerns that the program is used as a means of promoting abortion. As a result, these organizations have asked for additional safeguards  to ensure PREFAR isn’t allowing some to overreach their authority.

The Groups Behind Monday’s Antics

Housing Works and Health GAP took credit for the sit-in, where their members chanted and screamed for attention. Seven people were arrested, and the groups have proudly displayed their names on their website, like a badge of honor.
