The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts said in early June that an 18-year-old man was charged with a criminal complaint for sending gift cards to a person he believed was an ISIS supporter.

The Attorney’s Office claimed that the intention was for the gift cards to be sold on the dark web, with resulting cash to be used in supporting ISIS, but there are allegedly significant issues with the agency’s investigation. The man in question is Mateo Ventura, whose father claimed in a recent article that his son was born with development issues.

The article published on 12FT argues that the criminal complaint against Ventura proves that he never actually funded any terrorist organization. The only “terrorist” he was ever in touch with was an undercover FBI agent who allegedly sought to befriend him online when Ventura was only 16-years-old.

“He was born prematurely, he had brain development issues. I had the school do a neurosurgery evaluation on him and they said his brain was underdeveloped,” Ventura’s father told the outlet. “He was suffering endless bullying at school with other kids taking food off his plate, tripping him in the hallway, humiliating him, laughing at him.” (LEARN MORE: Republican Gov. The case is still ongoing, but shows the extreme dangers of leaving your children unattended on the internet. Not only do parents have to contend with abuse risks from pedophiles and members of the transgender community trying to normalize sterilization, but now they have to worry about the FBI.
