New COVID-19 Variant May Infect Vaccinated People
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Wednesday that the new COVID-19 variant, currently named “Eris,” could cause infection in those who previously received the untested vaccinations, the Epoch Times reported.
Apparently it’s too soon to know specifically how this latest variant impacts human health because this version of the lab-grown virus is so different to others. “The large number of mutations in this variant raises concerns of greater escape from existing immunity from vaccines and previous infections compared with other recent variants,” the CDC said. “For example, one analysis of mutations suggests the difference may be as large as or greater than that between BA.2 and XBB.1.5, which circulated nearly a year apart.”
Only two cases of the “BA.2” or “Eris” variant have been found in the U.S. All others were identified in Israel, Britain, South Africa, and Denmark.
