DeSantis Schools Reporters Over Hurricane Idalia Climate Change Questions

Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is running for the 2024 presidency, schooled reporters in Florida, Sunday, when asked about whether climate change was responsible for Hurricane Idalia.

“Well, I think if you look, there was a storm that went on this almost exact track in 1896. And it had 125-mile-an-hour winds just like this one,” DeSantis said in response to President Joe Biden’s alleged comment that climate change was responsible for the devastating storm. He noted that “if you look at the state of Florida, the most powerful storm, hurricane we’ve ever had is, actually, the anniversary is now—it’s the Labor Day hurricane of 1935. It had an 185-mile-an-hour sustained winds.”

He went on to say that “We’ve got to stop politicizing the weather and stop politicizing natural disasters.”

Left-Wing Policies Will Not Change The Climate

“I think sometimes people need to take a breath and get a little bit of perspective here,” DeSantis continued. “But the notion that somehow if we just adopt, you know, very left-wing policies at the federal level, that somehow we will not have hurricanes, that is a lie.” (LEARN MORE: More Than 850 People Still Missing After Maui Wildfires)

“And that is people trying to take what’s happened with different types of storms and use that as a pretext to advance their agenda on the backs of people that are suffering. And that’s wrong, and we’re not going to do that in the state of Florida.”

Choose Your Leaders For 2024

The Biden Administration’s response to all natural and man-made disasters has been disgusting, and falls far below what we should expect from our commander in chief. Thankfully, we get to choose a new president in 2024. So, who are you favorite candidates?

And what are the most important policies to you? And did you know that you, your family and friends can send letters directly to your elected officials today? We can tell your leaders what you want from their time in office, and what you expect from our federal government.

Letter writing campaigns, or even just a single letter, can be enough to sway policy. So what do you care about and want changed? Let us know, and we’ll send the letters to the right representatives for you.
