The Department of Defense announced in mid-July that President Joe Biden signed an executive order to approve the mobilization of “select reserve forces with up to 3,000 personnel, augmenting the armed forces in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve.”
“This new designation benefits troops and families with increases in authorities, entitlements and access to the reserve component forces and personnel,” Army Lt. Gen Douglas A. Sims II, said during a press briefing on the order.
“This [executive order] reaffirms the unwavering support and commitment to defend NATO‘s eastern flank in the wake of Russia’s illegal and unprovoked war on Ukraine.”
What Does This Mean For America?
Right now, Biden’s executive order seems to just allow the “Secretary of Defense and Secretary of Homeland Security, with respect to the Coast Guard… under their respective jurisdictions, to order to active duty any units, and individual members not assigned to a unit organized to serve as a unit of the Selected Reserve, or any member in the Individual Ready Reserve mobilization category and designated as essential under regulations prescribed by the Secretary concerned, not to exceed 3,000 total members at any one time.”
Essentially, the Pentagon can now tap on reserves to support Ukraine in their war against Russia. (LEARN MORE: Is Woke Hollywood Turning Against Zelenskyy And Supporting The War?)
