You didn’t have to be on-site for the Asbury Revival to feel His power echoing through the lives of those in attendance. Even those of us watching from afar were revived, a peace brought to our souls in the knowledge that His word was reaching more than anyone in mainstream entertainment.

Over the course of 10 days, thousands of people traveled to the chapel at Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky, to take part in the revival — a 24-hour non-stop worship and prayer service, the Washington Post reported in mid-February. Students from at least 22 colleges and universities throughout the country have attended the service, as well as a slew of international individuals who felt the call.

Despite revivals being a normalized part of the school’s practice, they were clearly unaware of how viral the most recent would go on social media. ““What you’re seeing on social media is a real-time version of how revival has always spread in American history through accounts that inspire other people in other locations,” Editor in Chief of the Gospel Coalition Colin Hansen said of the Asbury Revival. The school never intended for the event to go public. “The university made an intentional decision not to publicize this because we wanted to place an abundance of respect toward the experience of our students,” Asbury President Kevin Brown noted to NBC News.

The revival has lasted more than two weeks, twice as long as the next longest held at the school. It is now set to end, the Washington Post noted. But not before similar revivals started at other schools.
