A study published in the BMJ Open Diabetes Research & Care journal found that marriage may be positively impactful on health, particularly in older couples. Scientists Ford and Robitaille studied 3,335 people between the ages of 50-89-years-old who had never been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

The study found that people who were married were at a lesser risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The association was the same for both men and women, regardless of how they rated the quality of their marriage at the time of the study.

One writer, upon reading the study, suggested that sharing the cost of living means one has more disposable income to enjoy a happier life. Studies have also shown that if the U.S. had the same marriage rates in 2023 as we did in 1970, there would be a 25% decrease in poverty. Married also drop the probability of a child living in poverty by at least 82%

But what if its something more than that? On a spiritual level. God’s word never changes. Marriage was His idea, and in it we are mirroring the Church and Him in our time on this Earth when we enter into this sacred covenant. So perhaps there is something deeper at play, more so than the practical or the superficial.

Protecting the sanctity of marriage is a fundamental need for all Americans.
