Reports erupted Thursday morning that the U.S. federal agencies were hit as part of a global cyberattack, just hours after the World Economic Forum published an article about the threat of potential attacks.

The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency is currently “providing support to several federal agencies that have experienced intrusions” currently impacting vulnerable software, according to a statement shared with CNN. It is unclear what the exact impacts of the attack are at this time, but it is happening at the time of writing. Some have questioned whether the attack is part of an ongoing cyberattack by Russian hackers. The ransomware group has been hitting various targets across the U.S., and demanding money in exchange for their private data. But the group responsible has not listed any of the agencies currently under attack on their site as targets, CNN noted.
