Protestors Demand Oscars Drop ‘John Wick’ Star As Presenter Over Communist Ties

Critics have come out in force against “John Wick” actor Donnie Yen. Yen is listed as a presenter at the 2023 Academy Awards. He’s also a huge supporter of the Chinese Communist Party’s dictatorship.

A petition against Yen’s appearance at the 95th Oscars accrued 30,000 signatures in less than 48 hours, according to Breitbart. The petition was founded by young people from Hong Kong, who Yen publicly shamed for their pro-democracy protests in 2018.

“We, a group of people from Hong Kong, are writing to express our concern about your decision to invite an actor who supports the Chinese Communist Party’s violation of human rights, Donnie Yen, as a presenter for the Oscars. As a globally recognized film award, the Oscars should represent respect for human rights and moral values, rather than support for actions that violate them,” the group wrote, the outlet noted.

“Donnie Yen is a supporter of the Chinese Communist regime and has made several remarks in support of the Chinese government’s policies, including supporting the implementation of the National Security Law in Hong Kong and accusing Hong Kong protesters of being rioters.” (READ MORE: China And The Origins Of COVID-19 Get Special Treatment By House Republicans In 2023)

The group believes Yen’s behavior violates the spirit of freedom of speech, and denies the people of Hong Kong their right to freedom. He’s also a huge supporter of Chinese dictator Xi Jinping, which may be why he’s managed to be successful.

He’s even tried to convince people that China’s modernization is ignored by the west, telling GQ that “The BBC, CNN, they never talk about that. They never mention the true side of it. But I’m there, you know?”

Does he mean the truth that China is conducting a stealth invasion of the US, murdering children with fentanyl, and dumbing down entire generations with TikTok while stealing our data?

Possibly. But probably not.

Considering Yen gave up his U.S. citizenship to be “100% Chinese” in 2017, it is bizarre that he’s been invited to speak in a Hollywood crowd. If he doesn’t support free speech, why is he being celebrated in a country founded upon this God-given right?
