A lawsuit argued in a Texas federal court Tuesday could force Planned Parenthood to give the state and one anonymous whistleblower, more than $1 billion in Medicaid payments and other fines, according to The Hill.

Planned Parenthood said that any decision in the state’s favor would bankrupt every Texas affiliate of the pro-abortion organization. The suit stems from allegations that Planned Parenthood engaged in Medicaid fraud after it continued “to bill the state for health services administered during a period when the organization was fighting an attempt by Texas to cut it off from the state’s Medicaid funds,” The Hill stated.

Texas is suing the company for reclaim $17 million in Medicaid payments, plus $1 billion in penalties and punitive damages. In 2020, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th circuit ruled that Planned Parenthood had no rights to challenge Texas on it’s decision to remove the organization from its Medicaid program.
