Soros-Backed Group Spent More Than $700,000 On One Liberal Candidate
A PAC backed by foreign billionaire George Soros invested more than $700,000 into a progressive public defender’s campaign for district attorney in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, the Washington Examiner reported Tuesday.
The Justice and Safety PAC, based in Washington D.C., used most of its money to back Matt Dugan by buying ads and mailers attempting to destroy his opponent, Steve Zappala. The pack has no reported ties to the county, and is spending ten times as much money to elect Dugan as the candidate is spending himself, according to Zappala.
Soros Doesn’t Fund Candidates. He Buys Them.
“No rational person believes that any politician who gets nearly all their funding from one source won’t be taking orders from them once taking office,” Zappala’s spokesperson Mike Mikus noted.
A similar situation occurred in 2017, when Soros gave some $1.7 million in backing Larry Krasner’s Philadelphia DA campaign, five times as much as Krasner spent on himself. Krasner’s refusal to charge low-level offenders has led to a sharp rise in recidivism rates.
“All one has to do is look at Philadelphia … those of us that work in the system understand that electing a public defender as our chief law enforcement officer is not in the best interest of our safety nor victims,” a victim’s rights advocate told the outlet.
Don’t Deal With Soros-Bought Candidates
