NBA Player Credits God After His Team Makes History
Denver Nuggets forward Michael Porter Jr. pointed directly at God after the team won their first ever NBA title in history, Monday.
The Nuggets won the title after beating the Miami Heat 94-89 in the fifth of the seven-game series, according to CBN. It is the first time the team has ever won the NBA Championship in their 47-year history.
Most fans assumed that the team would never place in the championship. At halftime, the Nuggets were behind Miami Heat by seven points, but they managed to make it all back. Porter Jr. contributed 16 points and pulled down 13 rebounds, CBN noted.
Christianity And Basketball
Porter Jr. was raised to a Christian family who instilled the foundation of his faith. “My parents were strict parents. They held us accountable,” he said in a recent interview. “I remember we had a chart. If you lied, this is your punishment. If you disobeyed, this is your punishment.”
But when he got to college, he had to decide how his faith would work with his new found freedom. “When I stepped on a college campus, I could do what I wanted. And that’s when my faith really became my own. Did I want to be the person that parties all of the time, get drunk, sleeps with a bunch of women or did I want to be a person that my parents raised me to be?” he continued.

He Wanted To Be A Champion, And Now He Is!
Though Porter Jr. is now sporting a championship ring, he says the real price is being able to share his love of Christ with others.
“It’s been a dream of mine to influence people for God’s kingdom, because no matter how down I am, I know in the back of my head — God is what matters. Getting people to heaven is what matters. It’s been a dream of mine to get as good at basketball as I can. My platform is so big, maybe I can influence a generation. Maybe I can influence thousands, perhaps millions of people. That’s my end dream,” he wrote on Instagram.
