The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Criminal Investigation (CI) unit is launching an overseas pilot program in June that is designed to take cybercrime, according to The Epoch Times.

“This initiative focuses on cracking down on tax and financial crimes involving cryptocurrency, decentralized finance, peer-to-peer payments, and mixing services. It signals the IRS’s commitment to staying one step ahead of cybercriminals in the digital landscape,” the outlet noted.

Short-Term Program

It’s unclear where IRS: World Police will be stationed, but the report says agents will be present on four continents. These locations have been said to include, “Sydney, Singapore, Bogota, and Frankfurt, covering the regions of Australia, Asia, South America, and Europe, respectively.”

“In order to effectively combat cybercrime, we need to ensure that our foreign counterparts have access to the same tools and expertise we have here in the United States,” Chief of IRS: World Police said in a statement shared by the agency.

What Does IRS CI actually do?

The CI unit is focused on addressing financial crimes including tax fraud, money laundering, narcotics and human trafficking, public corruption, and more, the outlet noted. Given the rise in globalization, and the trend of U.S. elites being accused of financial corruption with foreign governments, maybe this overseas work will reveal more of what we already know might be happening.
