GOP Candidates Hit Hard On Government Shutdown, And Why It Matters To You

The 2024 GOP presidential candidates hit the looming government shutdown hard during Wednesday night’s debate and their messages are important to you, not just the people you elect to office.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., former Vice President Mike Pence, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, and serial entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy were on stage, as noted by Christian Headlines.

“Voters should blame everybody who’s in Washington, D.C.,” Christie told the crowd when asked about the shutdown. And he didn’t hold back his anger at Biden over the U.S. level of debt. “We don’t get any answers because Joe Biden hides in his basement and won’t answer as to why he’s raising the debt the way he’s done.”

“Donald Trump hides behind the walls of his golf clubs and won’t show up here to answer questions like all the rest of us are up here to answer,” Christie continued. “He put $7 trillion on the debt. He should be in this room to answer those questions for the people you talk about who are suffering.”

Unity From The Party … Sort Of

DeSantis also blamed those in Washington D.C., stating their “reckless behavior” as the culprit. Both parties were clearly to blame for the disorganization, which somewhat defines the state of the country at this moment in time. “Where’s Joe Biden? He’s completely missing an action from leadership,” DeSantis noted. “And you know who else is missing in action? Donald Trump is missing in action. He should be on this stage tonight. He owes it to you to defend his record where they added $7.8 trillion to the debt that set the stage for the inflation that we have.”

Foregoing Paychecks

“Congress has only delivered a budget on time four times in 40 years,” Haley proposed. “If they don’t keep the government open, they should not get paid. No pay, no budget.”
