The test scores of 8th grade students in U.S. history and civics and declined nationally, according to a report from the National Assessment for Education Progress.

Scores in history have dropped from 263 in 2018 to 258 in 2022, the report noted. The results for history are part of a long-standing trend of decline within the study, which has run since 1994. The history portion of the assessment focused on American Democracy, culture, technology, and America’s role in the world (World Role).

It’s almost like those who run and fund the American school system want children to be ill-equipped to intellectually understand America’s place in the modern world. As the old adage goes: those who do not understand history are doomed to repeat it.

Things Aren’t Much Better For Civics

The average civics score is just 150 out of 300, a drop of 3 points since 2018. This is the first time that civics scores have declined in our National Report Card.

“A well-rounded education includes a thorough grounding in democratic principles, and these assessments challenge students to show their knowledge and skills as they prepare to become full participants in American democracy,” the National Center for Education Statistics commissioner Peggy G. Carr said of the results.

“Self-government depends on each generation of students leaving school with a complete understanding of the responsibilities and privileges of citizenship. But far too many of our students are struggling to understand and explain the importance of civic participation, how American government functions, and the historical significance of events. These results are a national concern.”

A Stupid Population Is Easier To Control

Over the course of the almost 30 years the assessment has run, it appears nothing has been done to improve the situation. America’s children are being continuously let down by the state-funded education systems. Without adequate education, America’s children will doom all future generations to decline.
