Facebook Tells Biden Officials That It Suppressed ‘Often-True Content’ Regarding COVID-19 Vaccines

Documents released by Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey in early January showed that Facebook Told Biden Officials That It Suppressed “Often-True Content” regarding COVID-19 vaccines, as well as admitting to various other censorship practices.

Bailey obtained the documents from the Missouri v. Biden court case, in which President Joe Biden’s top officials are accused of colluding “with Big Tech social media companies to violate Americans’ right to free speech under the First Amendment,” according to the Daily Signal.

As early as March 2021, staff at Facebook were discussing the  “levers for tackling vaccines hesitancy content” with then-senior advisor to the Biden Administration’s COVID-19 response team Andrew Slavitt, as well as White House Director of Digital Strategy Rob Flaherty.

The staff member explicitly stated that the company was “focused on reducing the virality of content discouraging vaccines that does not contain actionable information. This is often-true content, which we allow at the post level because it is important for people to be able to discuss both their personal experiences and concerns about the vaccine, but it can be framed as sensation, alarmist, or shocking.” The person promised to remove groups, pages, and accounts promoting such content.

The Facebook staffer further suggested that the White House had asked the social media to take these actions, the Daily Signal noted.

Similar concerns were shared about YouTube in April between Flaherty and Google. Flaherty also suggested that Google suppress Fox News host Tucker Carlson and conservative commentator Tomi Lahren. Clearly Flaherty wasn’t happy with quite how much was being suppressed, writing “Pinterest doesn’t even show you any results other than official information when you search for ‘vaccines.’ I don’t know why you guys can’t figure this out,” in another email.

“I want to protect Missourians and the freedoms they enjoy, which is why as attorney general, I will always defend the Constitution,” Bailey told the Daily Signal. “This case is about the Biden administration’s blatant disregard for the First Amendment and its collusion with Big Tech social media companies to suppress speech it disagrees with.”

The Attorney General noted that he “will always fight back against unelected bureaucrats who seek to indoctrinate the people of this state by violating our constitutional right to free and open debate.”
