‘Discrimination And Censorship’: Major Conservative Platform Dropped By DirecTV

DirecTV decided Tuesday to no longer host conservative news outlet Newsmax.

DirecTV dropped Newsmax after an alleged dispute over carrier fees, which the network said is an act of political censorship, according to The Hill.

“On multiple occasions, we made it clear to Newsmax that we wanted to continue to offer the network, but ultimately Newsmax’s demands for rate increases would have led to significantly higher costs that we would have to pass on to our broad customer base,” DirecTV claimed in a statement issued to The Hill. “Anyone, including our customers, can watch the network for free via, and on multiple streaming platforms like Amazon Fire TV, Roku, and Google Play. We continually evaluate the most relevant programming to provide our customers and expect to fill this available channel with new content.”

Newsmax CEO Chris Ruddy disputed the statement, suggesting that the decision for DirecTV to drop the rapidly-growing network stems from political biases against conservative media organizations. He called the decision “discrimination and censorship.”

House Republicans sent a letter to DirecTV where they explained that an investigation will occur should they move forward with the decision to end ties with Newsmax, which they did on Tuesday. (READ MORE: How ‘Restoring Faith In America’ Helps Open Doors To Expressing Your Faith Without Fear)
